Peri, who oversees a roster of 40 male strippers in NYC, attributes the success to maintaining a high standard of professionalism. "There are some competitors that ignore dancers' recreational drug use, but that’s not tolerated in my shows," he said. "If I know a guy is using drugs, he's out of the performance."

While Magic Mike may have drawn attention to the male stripper scene, its portrayal isn't entirely accurate. "There's a misconception about the lifestyle," Peri explains. Anthony Catanzaro, 41, a dancer in HunkOMania's Manhattan show for over 20 years, agrees. "Steroid use does occur, but it’s not widespread. Some guys just want to bulk up more, like in any fitness industry."

Catanzaro added, "What you see in Magic Mike isn’t the complete picture. Many male strippers are fitness-focused and disciplined."

Despite the misconceptions, the buzz generated by Magic Mike has benefited male strip clubs. "The movie has definitely made more people curious about male revue shows," said Peri. "We’ve seen more interest from women booking for bachelorette parties, birthday celebrations, and girls’ night out events at our NYC male strip club and our other locations."
